The girl sighed as she moved around her bedroom, panicking about her upcoming birthday celebration. All her friends would be here expecting an amazing barbecue that she couldn’t hold because her mother had suddenly decided to spring on her that she was going away for a fortnight. How selfish was that?!
Flopping down on her bed, she hid her face in her folded arms as she thought of being in this large house on her own for a whole two weeks. Normally she’d have had Jessica over to keep her entertained but that wasn’t going to happen now, was it? She sighed as she thought she might invite Lily. Lily was always good at keeping people entertained and would probably scare away and scary monster. Hopefully.
Downstairs, not that she’d noticed, a figure was walking around in the dark. They were being weighed down by the heavy petrol can they held. Their eyes glinted in the moonlight as they gently spread the thick liquid over the furniture downstairs moving towards the stairs and splashing it up to her bedroom door. Smiling they gently painted the door with petrol. A small smile spread on their face as they heard the faint sound of her crying.
Moving back downstairs they moved to the back door where the trail of petrol started, pulling out a box of matches, they coldly lit one. Flicking it down on the ground, the glint in their eye brightened as the orange flames aggressively consumed the treat they’d handed it. They left in a hurried pace.
Katie sighed as she smelt something burning. Lifting her head from her hands she screamed at the amount of thick smoke consuming her bedroom. What was happening here? She moved to the bedroom window as she saw flames flicking underneath the door. A liquid was also there and she didn’t want to get closer to examine it because she immediately knew what it was.
“She promised there was nobody after us!” She screamed banging her fists on the window. “She promised!” She screamed again and again until she got weaker, her body slumping down on the floor as she continually spluttered from the smoke that she’d inhaled. “She promised…” She croaked as her last words, her eyelids closing as she blacked out.
The arsonist stood in the back garden, the glint still in their eyes as they stared up at the window. Happy to watch her collapse. To know that her life was over. To know she’d paid as well…
